How we work sustainably

Sustainability is a major topic for most businesses and industries today, and that includes the moving and shipping industry. All moving activities leave an environmental footprint, regardless of the mode of transport, which means environmental sustainability is a major concern. But our work also involves heavy physical labour that can put great strain on the bodies of our employees. Plus, Freys Express consciously hires people who are on a journey to settle safely into Swedish society, whatever their background. So we also have to consider social sustainability. Finally, because we have relationships with many different customers and suppliers, we also have to take financial sustainability into account.

On this page, we’ve broken down all the way that we purposefully work to reach increasingly higher levels of economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

We’re guided by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for achieving Agenda 2030 lay the foundation for our sustainability work. Of all 17 SDGs, our core focus is on the following:

Responsible consumption and production

What does this goal mean?
Sustainable development requires that we reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume goods and resources. This SDG has valuable social and economic benefits, such as growth and increased employment. Sub-goals 12.5 and 12.6 are about doing more to reuse and recycle, as well as encouraging companies to provide more and more information about sustainability.

How do we work to support this goal?
We actively encourage our customers to allow a greater proportion of the furnishings they do not want to take with them to be reused (or otherwise recycled). We’ve made it easy for customers to do that by building a network of partners through which they can sell or donate their used furniture. We are also gradually phasing out vehicles powered by petrol or diesel for electric-powered vehicles and training our drivers in energy-efficient driving strategies. We also coordinate to reduce all unnecessary transport, as well as continuously review all carbon expenditure targets and take measures when necessary.

Reduced inequalities

What does this goal mean?
An equal society is based on the principle of equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, and age. Equality reduces the risk of conflict and promotes the opportunity for all people to participate in and influence societal development.

How do we work to support this goal?
Throughout our long history, Freys Express has welcomed people from different backgrounds. For us, it doesn’t matter where a person comes from. What matters is what we can do together. By creating a welcoming and open work environment, we help people with varying backgrounds to find a safe place in Swedish society.
